Beginner Question About Initializing Pedal Pi

Hey all, first post here and BRAND new to raspberry pi and making effects, so apologies ahead of time for how much of a novice question this is.

If I want to run an effect/program on my pedal, what are the exact steps? Do I simply just do a sudo nano filename fikename.c, sudo gcc - o ./filename - l bcm2385, then simply load the pi into the pedal after that. Or rather, does the pi need to be in the pedal pi when the function compiles? I can’t find anything on this subject and although I know I could probably figure it out on my own, I want to know if I’m missing something.

Nvm, saw in a video it needs to be plugged in to the computer and you just run it from there. Sweetness
