Difference between distortion, overdrive and fuzz.

What's the difference between the waveform of distortion effect, overdrive and fuzz. I want to create these other two types, but I always find just the same waveform for all three. I need to understand how the other two effects affect the wave to create the algorithms.

Everybody has a different opinion about the differences between overdrive, distortion and fuzz. Y.ou can check the " Effects Explained: Overdrive, Distortion, and Fuzz - Gibson " for further information.

Generally speaking:
  • Overdrive: Signal gain boost and light soft clipping
  • Distortion: Hard clipping.
  • Fuzz: Super-Hard clipping - signal looking like a square waveform

To get some ideas and get inspired you can check the Tube Screamer waveform (for overdrive/distortion) and for fuzz definitely the Big Muff Pi waveform .

note:

keep it simple
